Optional Practical Training (OPT)

  • What is F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT)?

    OPT allows international students to work in the U.S. in their major field after graduation.

    • Standard Duration: 12 months
    • Application Timeline: Up to 90 days before graduation and no later than 60 days after
    • Extension:H1-B cap gap or STEM extension available
  • What is the 24-month STEM Extension of OPT?

    F-1 students with STEM degrees (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math) can apply for an additional 24-month extension to their OPT period (totaling up to 36 months).
